Honoring Self, Connecting in Harmony
Systemic therapy for individuals and couples.
Hello, I’m Afua
My work with an individual client centers on illuminating that person's life vision and understanding the abiding obstacles to change: these may include intrusive negative thinking and habitual problem behaviors. As a systemic therapist, my couples work involves the co-creation of mutual language based on respect, love and validation.
My career as a physician, although rewarding, often shifts one's limited time and focus to the immediate medical demands of health and disease. We are so much more complex than this. For this reason, I love my therapy work; it allows me the time to learn deeply with my clients about their most heartfelt concerns. I can help. Let us begin the journey.
“The currency of the human soul lies in the connection with one’s self and with others.”
The quest for safe, nurturing, loving connection serves a fundamental need that many of us can spend our entire lives striving to meet. I welcome individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds who want to decrease anxiety and depression, enhance personal wellbeing and build their capacity for loving relationships.

My background
My academic and professional training includes a Bachelor Degree in Arts and Sciences and a Masters Degree in Reproductive Health and Population Dynamics, both from Johns Hopkins University.
I earned my Medical Degree at the University of Pennsylvania and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Weill Cornell, New York Hospital. I also have Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University.
Whereas I do not function in the role of a physician with my therapy clients, I believe that my approach to healing involves an integrated understanding of the human body and the human psyche.
